The UMKC Law Foundation The Law Foundation operates through its Board of Trustees as a fiscally autonomous organization with the inherent goals of meeting the long and short-term fiscal needs of the UMKC School of Law. Established in 1959 by alumni and friends of the School, the Foundation works to sustain those unique and important aspects of the educational process considered essential in support a superior legal institution. Through providing auxiliary financial resources, the Law Foundation helps support certain fundamental elements that might otherwise be unattainable. The stated purposes of the Law Foundation are: To promote and advance legal education To assist in the enhancement of leading technology critical in today's learning environment To aid the Law School in the acquisition of library and research materials To provide scholarships for law students To obtain lectureships and chairs for law faculty To promote the advancement of continuing legal education Additional annual achievements include: Sustaining growth of the Law Foundation corpus Allocating scholarship money totaling over $200,000 annually Providing financial support for student services and programs, alumni and friends cultivation efforts, and the school’s public communications program Providing critical support for faculty research Continuing the long-standing tradition of Black Tie, a special annual event that celebrates the generosity of top Law Foundation contributors.
