Professor Jasmine Abdel-khalik joined UMKC Law School after practicing in Chicago, Illinois, initially at
Baker & McKenzie LLP and subsequently at Freeborn & Peters, LLP. Her practice encompassed general commercial
and intellectual property litigation, including litigation before the Federal Circuit Court of Appeals and
administrative proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board and the World Intellectual Property
Organization. Her practice also included trademark registration and counseling businesses in advertising and marketing compliance.
After receiving her Bachelor of Arts in History and Sociology from Cornell University, Professor Abdel-khalik
received her J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School. While in law school, Professor Abdel-khalik
served as a Notes Editor on the Michigan Journal of International Law, where she published a note, and was a
semi-finalist in the Campbell Moot Court Competition. She was also a student-intervenor in the Grutter v.
Bollinger suit and served as an officer in the Latino Law Student Association.
Professor Abdel-khalik teaches, researches and writes in the areas of intellectual property law,
specifically trademark, other unfair competition and business tort claims, and intellectual property litigation.
She also teaches in the commercial law area and is a co-advisor of the Appellate Advocacy Program, the National
Moot Court Competition team, and the ABA National Appellate Advocacy team.
