Professor Thompson received her Bachelor of Science degree in Communications Management/Public Relations from Southwest Missouri State University in 1998. She graduated from Washington University’s School of Law in 2001. While in law school, Professor Thompson served as Executive Notes & Topics Editor of the Washington University Law Quarterly and president of the Black Law Students Association. She also represented Washington University at the 2001 National Environmental Moot Court Competition, where she was named semi-finalist and high oralist. Upon graduation, Professor Thompson received the International Academy of Trial Lawyers Award for proficiency in trial competitions and classes.

Professor Thompson was admitted to the Missouri Bar in 2001, the District of Columbia Bar in 2002, and the Kansas Bar in 2003. Following law school, she worked as an associate at the Washington, D.C. law firm of Arnold & Porter. Her practice included representation of Wyeth in the so-called “Phen-Fen” litigation. From 2002 until joining the faculty in the fall of 2005, Professor Thompson practiced at the law firm of Bryan Cave LLP in Kansas City, where she specialized in employment discrimination, commercial litigation and telecommunications matters.

Professor Thompson's hobbies include reading, softball, Pilates, and spending time with her family.
