James C. Wirken, President, The Wirken Law Group, P.C., is a trial attorney with 35 years of experience. He founded The Wirken Law Group, P.C. in 1993.
With a broad range of expertise, The Wirken Law Group, P.C. handles the following types of legislative matters: general civil; business; corporate;
commercial and real estate; lender liability and loan workout; insurance; tort; personal injury; product liability; malpractice; and family law.
As part of its active general business and personal practice, The Wirken Law Group, P.C. also represents numerous large and small businesses,
including corporations, general and limited partnerships, limited liability companies, and individuals. Services are provided for these entities
and individuals in the area of Corporate, General Business, Commercial, Immigration, Real Estate, Estate Planning and Probate Administration,
Elder Law and Tax.
In 1998, Jim began networking with other attorneys in the metropolitan area, regionally and nationally, to create a “virtual law firm.” This
virtual law firm is an affiliate referral service offering representation to clients in the areas of appellate; bankruptcy; business & corporate
law; construction & surety law; employment law; mediation; arbitration & ADR; medical malpractice; mergers & acquisitions; patent; trademark &
copyright; probate administration; product liability; professional & nursing home negligence; real estate; securities & corporate finance
securities; litigation & arbitration; taxation; venture capital; worker’s compensation and wrongful death.
An active member in the legal community, Jim’s volunteer activities have included the Missouri Bar Board of Governors, Chairmanship of various
National, State and Local Bar Committees; he has served on the Executive Committee of the National Conference of Bar Presidents and as the
President of the National Caucus of Metropolitan Bar Leaders; American Trial Lawyers Association and the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar
Association where he served as President of the Young Lawyers Section and the Senior Sector.
Jim also enjoys his role as teacher. As an adjunct professor at the University of Missouri at Kansas City, School of Law, Jim has taught
for ten (10) years and coordinated the Trial Advocacy Program for the last five years. His teachings also include frequent lectures.
Jim has spoken on various topics from trial workout and ethics to law office management. Jim also writes a weekly article on law
office marketing management and economics for The Daily Record, and co-hosts a Sunday morning radio program, where he offers knowledge
and advice about the law, his show is “Wirken on the Law.”
However, Jim’s passion is in the courtroom. He has won many verdicts and settled many cases for over a million dollars, as well as given
expert testimony over his career in twenty-three cases involving the areas of legal malpractice, attorneys fees and bad faith.
Jim’s personal passions are family, sailing and traveling. He and his wife Mary have six children, two of which are attorneys. They never
miss the change to get the family together and spend the day on or near the water.
